Ooooh! Three months of never missing a Tuesday. That’s been a great experience - keeping something regular that I do every week, thinking about what I can share and what could actually be useful to you.

And I appreciate you all a lot. It’s been super inspirational to see that almost half of my subscriber list actually opens these up. Appreciate it a lot, genuinely 🫶

But here’s how I feel about it now.

I don’t think any of you are waking up on Tuesdays thinking oh, can’t wait to get new Pasha’s newsletter. If you don’t find it in your inbox this week, I don’t think you’d care, or even remember you were supposed to get something.

And that’s fair. We need to shaken our relationship a little bit, you and me.

The promise nobody asked for

Funny enough, the weekly commitment is purely a commitment I created for myself, by just getting an idea of a weekly newsletter. A fake personal commitment.

And some weeks it showed. I pushed myself to keep the promise and made a newsletter I didn’t think was worthy to send… but I had to keep up with the weekly cadence.

Two weeks ago I wrote about how applying your taste on top of AI is what lets you stand out instead of making generic things (AI slop, in simple terms). Hard to hold that bar and press send on filler in the same month.

What I got wrong about the format

I tried the educational ones, with the more nerdy concepts. But educational format is too long for a newsletter. And just talking about a concept doesn’t really ignite me… it’s basically me being theoretical about a thing I’ve known for a year.

I tried the bite-size content, one specific Claude feature per issue. It also doesn’t really inspire me to write. I’m not a feature person, to be honest. And this one (on a contrary) should be a tweet-sized info. Not a newsletter.

And the calibration is genuinely hard. Some of you find the advice I give very obvious. Some of you find my nerdier ones a little unclear, or impossible to implement. Aiming at both at once mostly means missing both.

What I want Above Average to be

When I started Above Average I wanted to feel enjoyment from writing and sharing, while also making it useful and interesting for you to read.

Writing AI productivity guides, features and software in a purely technical way is not that for me. And the newsletter is a wrong medium for the thing I wanted to transmit.

So, two changes

1/ No more forced cadence. I want to follow a more natural schedule.

When I have a story I want to share, and I think you might learn something from it or get inspired by it, I’ll send it. I don’t want to frame myself into some sort of forced Tuesday.

2/ The angle becomes my own journey. You can read about features anywhere on the internet, watch a video tutorial, or just ask Claude - which is faster than me anyway.

My unique angle is my own story: building AI workflows at work, progressing with personal projects and a setup I genuinely enjoy and learn a lot from.

Some of those lessons turned out to be pretty fundamental. Some were quite frustrating, and I hope I can keep you from those.

Personal experience, real examples, failures and lessons. Not guides.

I’m not a guru here to teach you how to use AI. I’m just a person with my own story and my own path to stay above average. And I’d like this newsletter to be the extension of that story.

Thank you very much again for staying with me this long and for reading these. See you soon, hopefully with some great things to share that I’d enjoy writing and you’d benefit from reading.

What would actually make you glad to see my name in your inbox?
